Historic NDIS funding agreement for South Australia

The Marshall Liberal Government and Turnbull Coalition have reached a historic agreement that will deliver people with disability choice and control over the services and supports they need to live a fulfilling life.

Yesterday, Premier Steven Marshall and Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull signed a Bilateral Agreement on the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS), guaranteeing funding for the full Scheme in South Australia.

The Agreement comes as the state’s new Disability Inclusion Act comes into effect on July 1, and the NDIS reaches the five-year mark in South Australia.

Minister for Human Services Michelle Lensink said she was pleased the new funding agreement was signed with the Federal Government.

“This agreement is effective from July 1 and I’m confident that it will benefit people living with disability – and their families – across South Australia,” said Minister Lensink.

Minister Lensink said the Marshall Liberal Government will continue to support the aspirations and goals of the NDIS - and its participants - with policies and initiatives, such as the new Disability Inclusion Act, which comes into effect tomorrow.

“South Australia will contribute more than $720 million dollars a year to the National Disability Insurance Scheme, with that commitment increasing by four percent every year, while the Commonwealth will fund the balance of NDIS costs in our state,” she said.

“While the NDIS gives people with disability more choice and control over the services and supports they need, the new Act is important to ensure mainstream services are accessible to South Australians with disability.”
